As broadband makes high-quality video in the home feasible for all, the mobile platform becomes a discovery and ad hoc viewing device and shared experiences migrate to the television. TV supports long-form storytelling that makes many of the emerging commenplaces of mobile, including the advertising model and short programs as a religious issue (“Never make a video longer than __ minutes, ever.”) short-lived rules of success.
The study estimates that enabled smart TVs have penetrated 32% households, while streaming devices — such as Roku, Google Chromecast, Apple TV and Amazon Fire — are now in 27%.
